President Nicos Anastasiades met his Slovakian counterpart Zuzana Caputova on Monday, who is on a one-day visit to Cyprus.
Caputova is in Cyprus to also visit with the Slovakian regiment of Unficyp, ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
During her visit, she will also meet with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Cyprus, Colin Stewart.
During the meeting of the two presidents, bilateral relations between Cyprus and Slovakia were reviewed, while Anastasiades thanked her for the principled stance of Slovakia in the efforts for the resumption of the negotiations and for Slovakia’s solidarity within the EU, against Turkish provocations in Cyprus.
He also briefed his counterpart on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem and the ongoing Turkish actions both on land and at sea, especially in the Famagusta region, and in its maritime zones, as well as on the problem that Cyprus is facing due to the weaponisation of immigration by Turkey.
The two also discussed the developments and implications of the Russian invasion and the war in Ukraine.
The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Charalambos Petrides, government spokesman Marios Pelekanos, the director of the Diplomatic Office of President Kyriacos Kouros.
