A total of 817 serious criminal cases were prosecuted by Paphos police in 2022, compared to 553 in 2021, according to the head of Paphos CID, Michalis Nikolaou, an increase of 47.74 per cent.

Nikolaou stated that out of the serious criminal cases in 2022, 156 were burglaries, while in 2021, 126 were burglaries.

The head of police also pointed out that the increase in observed criminality is largely due to an uptick in migrants of African origin attempting to travel from Paphos airport with forged documents.
