Wearing a protective helmet will become mandatory for cyclists as of February 1, the police announced on Tuesday adding they will start fining people caught contravening the law.
Cyclists caught not wearing a helmet on the road will risk fines of up to €500.
The protective helmets will have to comply with current EU CYS1078 specification.
They will have to uphold EU standards related to shock absorption and allow for ample vision, as well as present safe fastening devices and a dedicated label.
