Mayor calls for start to be made on Paphos wave breakers

A way to implement a decision to construct wave breakers in front of the Paphos marina and hotels along the seafront needs to be found, Yeroskipou mayor Kyriacos Hadjivasilis said on Sunday.

Speaking to the Cyprus news Agency, he said the wave breakers will protect and improve the beach area in southwest Paphos and the plan is awaiting environmental approval.

The project was approved, he said, but then this approval was withdrawn in December.

He called on the communications and works minister to issue tenders for the project, while a decision on how it will be implemented needs to be taken so it can get started.

The mayor also spoke about how the project has been delayed, as a tender was first invited in December 2018.

Hadjivasilis said he has already spoken to minister Alexis Vafeades about the matter.
