The General Secretariat for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated a study visit of EU officials on Monday, with the aim of enhancing relations between the administrations of member states and the European Commission.

According to an announcement by the Nicosia Municipality, the visit also sought to improve the understanding of EU personnel regarding the political, administrative, and economic structures of a member state, as well as to inform them about the challenges and local needs of various member states.

The delegation from the EU, which included Ambassador Louis Telemachou, the General Secretary of the General Secretariat for European Affairs, and representatives from the Directorates-General of the European Commission, was welcomed by Nicosia mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis, in the new conference room of the Municipal Council.

In addition, a presentation was given on the role of the CYENS Centre of Excellence and its contribution to positioning Nicosia as a hub for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Accompanied by municipal secretary Myria Pilakouta, the participants visited the building of the Old City Hall Market, which will soon host the activities of the CYENS Centre of Excellence, the Nicosia Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hub, and the new Nicosia City Hall.

This visit signifies the commitment of Cyprus to strengthen its ties with the European Union and foster collaboration and knowledge sharing between member states.

It provides an opportunity for EU officials to gain insights into the specificities of Cyprus and explore areas of mutual interest and cooperation.

Through such initiatives, Cyprus aims to enhance its standing as an active and valued member of the European community while promoting its own unique contributions to research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
