Police on Tuesday warned of a new SMS scam aiming to steal personal data, which was flagged by the post office.

The recipient would receive a text message asking them to pay duties, to receive a package sent to them through the mail.

It would then ask them to follow a link to arrange payment.

Members of the public who receive such texts were urged to be particularly careful, and to not click on any links as they would be risking money being stolen from their bank accounts, and their personal information being intercepted.

In cases where they actually expect the delivery of parcels through the post, it is recommended that they track their parcels through the sender or the courier service
