Fengaros Music Village welcomes its tenth edition this summer. An annual occasion that is becoming one of the island’s most important meetings of musicians, FMV will take place from July 27 to August 1 in the picturesque village of Kato Drys.

Providing arts education through a series of eight music, theatre and movement workshops, the summertime establishment nurtures a broad network of artists from Cyprus and beyond to gather in the village and foster creative collaboration. Building on the success of its past few editions, Fengaros Music Village brings together experienced professionals and music enthusiasts alike to partake in knowledge exchange and collaborate with one another.

Industry professionals will be leading a wide range of workshops focusing on song-writing and arranging, improvisation and composition, jazz and folk music traditions, as well as voice, theatre and movement. Attendees will be able to participate in their workshop of choice, which will take place daily during the morning and afternoon hours, revitalising the quaint Cypriot village with music and creativity. Each evening free concerts will be available to the public, followed by open jam sessions at the village’s central café.

Fengaros Music Village’s goal is to hone a long-lasting and resourceful community of artists to cultivate diverse creative and disseminative opportunities. Attendees will gain a fruitful network of fellow local and foreign artists – whether it be from fellow participants in a workshop, the instructors or chance collaborators from the improvised evening jam sessions. This is evident in the flourishing local discography and collaborations between young artists that participate in Fengaros Music Village.

The workshops include a session on the relationship between the actor and the director from the rehearsal to the stage delivered by Antonia Charalambous and Athina Kasiou, a workshop on song-writing and arranging techniques for the modern songwriter and performer, facilitated by Fotis Siotas. George Kontrafouris and Ermis Michail will lead a workshop called Band Environment: Roles and Coexistence while Martha Mavroidi will explore musical variations through group composition and improvisation.

The well-known Cypriot Michalis Tterlikkas will lead a workshop called Words and Songs of Cyprus while Michalis Kouloumis will showcase the musical traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean, their techniques and improvisation. Focusing on body awareness, Viky Kalla and Panayiotis Tofi will lead a workshop called Awakened to Movement and Touch. Lastly, Eleni Irakleous will travel from Germany for the Artist Residency to form the FMV Student Collective to perform at Fengaros Festival.

Each workshop lasts around 30 hours, including morning and afternoon sessions. To participate in one workshop, the cost is €170 and for those who want to have five lunches included as well, they can choose the €210 price. The price also includes entrance to the Festival in August, making it more than a week-long experience full of music in the quaint Larnaca village.
