Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos departed today for Luxembourg, where he will participate in the meetings of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) and the General Affairs Council (GAC) of the EU on June 26 and 27, respectively.
On the sidelines of the FAC, he will meet with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions at the FAC will focus on the latest developments in Ukraine following the Russian invasion and the evaluation of the EU’s coordinated response.
In addition, the ministers will also exchange views on EU-Latin America and Caribbean relations, while the adoption of conclusions on digital diplomacy is also expected.
Under the agenda of current affairs, the ministers will address, among other things, the situation in Tunisia and Somalia, as well as recent developments in the Armenia-Azerbaijan relations and the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue.
Moreover, during the FAC proceedings, Kombos will hold a bilateral meeting with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
On Tuesday, June 27, he will participate in the GAC meetings. The council’s agenda will include, among other things, the preparation of the European Council in June and the revision of the European electoral law.
The ministers will also attend an informal working lunch with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova Nicu Popescu.
On the sidelines of the council’s proceedings, the minister of foreign affairs will have a separate meeting with his Moldovan counterpart, to discuss matters of mutual interest.
Finally, the minister of foreign affairs will return to Cyprus on Wednesday, June 28.
