Authorities on Sunday were investigating the exact causes of a fire that broke out near houses in Ayia Fyla over the weekend causing damage to two cars.

According to police, the fire broke out shortly after 6pm on Saturday in a fenced field, an extension of a house.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the blaze before it spread to nearby residences.

The fire destroyed one car and extensively damaged a second which was parked near the field. Trees and vegetations were also burned.

Investigators are looking into the possibility of whether the fire was caused by fireworks thrown from an event taking place nearby.
