Cyprus has moved up one place to 21st in the European Union for gender equality, according to the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE).

The ranking was published in the EIGE’s Gender Equality Index, wherein Cyprus scored a total of 60.7 points out of a possible 100.

Gender Equality Commissioner Josie Christodoulou said the Index “is an important tool in the effort to further improve gender equality issues”.

“While progress has been made on gender equality, there is still a long way to go until we reach substantive equality in Cyprus,” she added.
