People start most forest fires and therefore they’re far more frequent than they would be in a world less dominated by humans

Nine large tractors and eight excavators were received by the forestry department on Friday, an announcement said.

The tractors and excavators were received as part of the department’s strategy help battle forest fires.

The equipment will be utilised during the implementation of preventive measures, with the creation and/or maintenance of fire zones and lanes at strategic points in areas monitored by forestry department. The equipment will also be used in the maintenance of the existing forest road network.

According to the department, with the receipt of the equipment on Friday, even before the official end of the 2023 fire season, it is evident that there are continuous planning and efforts made by the department for its preparation and its response to protect Cypriot forests.
