There is plenty of artwork around the island to inspire suggests ELENI PHILIPPOU

This autumn, as usual, has been the season for art exhibitions. Dozens are currently open around the island from solo shows to group showcases presenting the works of local and international artists. In the next few days, more will open, enriching the local art scene in Larnaca and Limassol.

On Monday, painter Andreas Nicolaou will present his new exhibition The Era of Paradise at Gallery Morfi in Limassol. The exhibition will remain open until December 2, showcasing the artist’s latest work.

Also opening in Limassol next week is Elina Hadjinicola’s first solo show. The contemporary mixed-media sculptor will present her exhibition titled The Fundamental Components of the World at the Seed Youth Gallery, from Saturday to December 9.

Featured in the exhibition are sculptures the artist makes from materials that relate to the basic elements of the world: wind, earth, fire and water. She explores identity and belonging through different sculptural forms and materials, and invites the viewer to reflect on these themes both from a local and universal standpoint. Hadjinicola incorporates found objects from Cyprus such as copper, rocks, Cypriot squashes, clay from Cypriot soil and beeswax – materials which are strongly connected to local craft-making techniques and traditional practices.

In Larnaca, an exhibition opening on November 27 will take viewers on a journey across the world of ceramics. Young artist Marios Pyrgou will present colourful and asymmetrical ceramic pieces at EVOHK artist-run space, many of which are inspired by his travels. He uses clay as a means of expressing his impressions from trips around the world. His exhibition will run for just two days.
