A 30-year-old man admitted on Monday to charges of importing and illegally possessing around 15kg of drugs for the purpose of supply at the Paphos criminal court.

However, he pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and money laundering.

As a result of Monday’s hearing, he will remain in custody until his next hearing on November 30.

He was caught by customs officers at Paphos airport on October 3 with around 15 kg of cannabis, having reportedly flown with the drugs from Spain via Vienna. A search of his luggage found four nylon packages containing the drugs.

He said he was approached by people he did not know, who asked him to transport drugs for a fee. Police also said he had told them he did not know who was to receive the drugs.

The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
