The heart of the festive season this year in Nicosia will beat in the historic centre of the capital. The Municipality of Nicosia will transform Laiki Yitonia into a festive ground as it participates in the Christmas Village 2023 programme of the tourism ministry.

With the slogan Where Magic Meets Tradition, the Christmas Village in old Nicosia invites young and old to experience a unique experience this holiday season. Fifty days and more than 200 hours of entertainment, fun and education in the picturesque alleys of the traditional neighbourhood are planned.

The programme includes musical and theatrical events, choirs, dance ensembles, musical bands, puppet theatre, activities for children, experiential workshops on Cypriot tradition, culinary demonstrations and with Santa’s workshop, the Christmas Village of Laiki Yitonia will offer a unique holiday experience unprecedented by Cypriot standards.

Every Friday night at the bar of the Christmas Village various events will take place such as open mic-stand-up comedy, retro music nights with DJs, saxophone nights and many other events for adults, since the festive village is not only aimed at children and families.

Small shops, vendors, bright ornaments and Christmas trees will add to the experience. “The excitement is peaking and the day is approaching when the unique Christmas Village of the capital will welcome local and foreign visitors,” say organisers, “offering them unique experiences, tastes, festive colours and aromas, activities for children and adults and many, many daily surprises. Of course, our beloved Santa Claus and his elves could not be missing from this festive village, where children can leave their letters with their wishes.”

The official first day of operation of the Christmas Village is set for Sunday. For more than a month, Nicosia will experience something unique, a Christmas Village that will combine a festive atmosphere, and fun for all while promoting the traditions and culture of Cyprus.
