One thousand eight hundred teddy bears were thrown onto the pitch during Saturday’s top flight football match between Aek Larnaca and Aris Limassol.
The gesture marked the successful execution of the No Child Without a Teddy Bear initiative, a collaborative effort organised by the Pancyprian Volunteer Coordinating Council (PVCC) and spearhead by its head George Kambouris.
Volunteers gathered on the sidelines of the pitch collected the toys and separated them into small bags that also contained various other items donated by sponsors.
The teddy bears will be distributed to children from financially vulnerable families through NGOs as part of the Adopt a Family for Christmas campaign organized by the PVCC.
“We want to thank Aek Larnaca’s administration for their cooperation in executing the initiative, to the fans who contributed teddy bears and essential items, to the companies providing services and items, and to all volunteers who offered their services with smiles and love,” PVCC said.
This is the third year in a row the No Child Without a Teddy Bear initiative, which has been highly successful abroad for several years, has been executed in Cyprus.
