A 68-year-old British national is in a critical condition after having been run over on Thursday morning in Paralimni.

Famagusta district police press officer Steve Theodoulou explained that the incident occurred a few metres short of an intersection, where the car, driven by a 66-year-old man, was about to turn right.

The British man was attempting to cross the road from the driver’s left-hand side.

He made contact with the car’s windscreen before landing on the road. He was subsequently taken to the Famagusta general hospital in Paralimni, before being transferred to the Nicosia general hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

Theodoulou said the man has suffered a cerebral haemorrhage and is in a critical condition, and that he is expected to be “immediately admitted to the operating theatre”.

The driver was breathalysed and was found to have no alcohol in his system, while the car reportedly sustained “minor damage”.
