The Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) activated the Nearchos plan on Tuesday night to conduct an airlift for a 48-year-old man crew member of a cargo ship sailing off the coast of Cyprus.

According to JRCC’s announcement, the cargo ship was located approximately 120 nautical miles southwest of Cyprus, falling within the area of responsibility for Search and Rescue of the Republic of Cyprus (FIR Nicosia).

In response, a helicopter from the 460MED of the aviation administration of the National Guard was mobilised, along with a specialised nurse from the ambulance service.

He was safely transported to Paphos general hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
