Three of seven birds on a sculpture in the Ayia Napa sculpture park have been stolen, the mayor said.
The sculpture called The Birds was added to the works on display at the part in 2000.
The theft was noticed on Wednesday and was reported to the police station in Ayia Napa.
Ayia Napa mayor Christos Zanettou condemned the theft and called on anyone who knows anything to come forward.
It concerns a very important work for the municipality, he said, which was placed at the eastern most point of Europe and is very symbolic.
The birds are ascending as the sun does from this point, he said. They are also different colours to represent different peoples and peace between nations.
He said he hopes the missing bords will be found as soon as possible and returned.
