Improvements have been reported in the health of the two national guardsmen who suffered severe symptoms of heatstroke, defence ministry spokesman Andreas Stylianou said on Monday.
Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), Stylianou said the 17-year-old who was hospitalised in Paris shows significant improvement and his vital organs have been restored.
He said the young conscript, who was flown to the University Hospital in Paris, is slowly being brought out of his state of his induced coma.
Stylianou said this would take some time, with his response being monitored.
So far, there is no official medical update on what caused him to collapse, Stylianou added.
The 18-year-old conscript being treated at the Nicosia general hospital has been extubated.
If his covid test is negative, he will be transferred from the intensive care unit to a ward for recovery.
The recruit had tested positive for covid on July 19.
Stylianou said there is no official diagnosis available for the second conscript either.
He added that soon air conditioning units will be installed in all army camps.
Earlier, in statements on CyBC radio, the defence ministry spokesman said their condition is being monitored on an ongoing basis.
Regarding the causes that led to the collapse of the two national guardsmen, it does not appear from initial assessment that negligence took place on the part of army officers or through inadequate protocols, however, an inquiry into the matter is to wrap up shortly, he said.
