The forestry department on Sunday thanked a group of members of the public who stepped in to put a fire out in the Paphos district on Saturday.
“An example to be followed is the action of our fellow citizens passing by who, on Saturday at 1pm, put out a fire which started at the edge of the main road between Prodromi and Drousia, possibly due to the carelessness of others,” they said.
“To all those who did not just stand by and watch the fire develop, and who managed to put it out with the little water they had in their buckets on the way to their holidays, the forestry department expresses its warm thanks.”
They added that this is an example to follow, “because if everyone at the right time is not indifferent, our forests and our private property will not be endangered, and we will not mourn human lives.”
