The Paphos district court on Tuesday remanded a 27-year-old woman for three days to facilitate an investigation into allegations of forgery, impersonation, circulation of a false document, obtaining registration through false pretences, and illegal employment.
According to Paphos police spokesperson Michalis Nikolaou, the incident took place on Monday when officers from the Immigration and Aliens Service conducted a raid at a bakery in Paphos following information that illegal foreign workers were employed there.
During the investigation, a 27-year-old woman was found working in the kitchen. According to Nikolaou, she might have secured the job by presenting a travel document from a Lithuania, despite not being from that country.
The owner of the bakery was questioned and said that he had hired the woman after she presented the Lithuanian identity document, which he then used to register her for social insurance.
