The first edition of MountainFest, a celebration of culture and entertainment under the starry summer sky of the island’s mountainous regions is coming up this August. Organised by the Youth Board of Cyprus, the two-day event takes place as part of the National Year of Youth and is organised in collaboration with local mountain communities, ready to bring plenty of fun to young people in Cyprus.
Two nights in two different locations will make up the 1st MountainFest, first at the Regional Primary School of Evrychou on August 31 and at Kaoura Square in Agros on the following Saturday.
Live music performances by young Cypriot artists, food and delicacies from local producers combined with a variety of creative and interactive activities are on the agenda for both evenings, offered to all for free.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet youth organisations that deal with the environment which will offer interactive activities, local youth groups that will present their work, useful agencies for youth, the mobile technology unit Mobile Makerspace, as well the programmes and services of the Youth Organization.
In addition, open discussions will take place. In Evrychou, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades and the Commissioner for the Development of Mountain Communities Charalambos Christofinas will talk with the youth about road network issues in the mountainous areas. At the Agros event, Vafeades will discuss the same issue with more young people.
Music and dance performances will add to the event and on both nights an appearance by Alaloum band will close the evening.
