The 10th anniversary edition of Windcraft Music Fest may be over, yet both Katydata village, where the festival takes place, and the organising team are still buzzing. Following an explosive festival edition that welcomed artists from all corners of the world, the festival has one more surprise in store before the summer ends. An exhibition, literary corner and concert are coming up, set in the quaint village where it all takes place. Mark your calendars for September 1, the fun is not over yet.

Besides the concerts and free workshops the festival organises, this year the exhibition Sounds of Memory and the space Armarouthukia were set up as part of Windcraft Music Fest 10 at the Stavrinos’ Inn. Next month, they will reopen for one day for visitors on September 1 from 11am to 7pm. Visitors will be able to browse the collections and then in the evening, the inner courtyard of the Inn will host the music group Maly for a concert to bid farewell to summer.

The Sounds of Memory exhibition features a collection of objects that have stories behind them, that they are unable to tell. Clay, wood, metal and stone cannot speak yet their stories can be heard through those who lived with and used these objects. “We went against oblivion, to ‘inspirit’ these objects, through the voice of the villagers of Katydata, men and women, in whose hands the clay, the wood, the metal and the stone turned into life,” say organisers. “Enter the chamber of the inn, stand at the window between the manger and the fireplace and listen to the soundscape; let it take you on a journey through memory, and explore the stories of the objects that surround you.” The exhibition will open for one more day featuring the stories of Aliki Papapetrou, Anthoula Tofaridou, Elli Stavrinou-Frantzidou, Lella Kokkinidou, Maria Andreou, Pambos Savvides and Stefanos Michael.

At the Inn’s mud-brick room is an eye-catching cabinet, where the Armarouthkia action is hosted. On its shelves lie books by Cypriot writers. Poetry, science books and children’s books are on display, waiting to be picked up, flipped through and read. On September 1, visitors have a chance to explore them once again and after the event, the books collection will continue its journey, finding its place at the lending library of Evrychous’ Youth Multicentre operated by the Youth Board of Cyprus.

Finally, the concert will take place at 7pm with the Maly music group taking over the floor. Vassilis Philippou on voice, percussion, ney and compositions and Odysseas Toumazou on guitar and compositions will present music inspired by the sounds of Cyprus found in speech and music. Expect original compositions and arrangements of traditional pieces that have as their theme the relationship between the past and the present, combined with the Cypriot landscape. And all of that, completely for free.
