The local European Mobility Week Award for 2023 along with a cash prize of €2,000 has been awarded to Nicosia municipality, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades announced on Monday, during an event in Nicosia.

The campaign for the local European mobility week has been run by the ministry since 2019 with the aim of encouraging and supporting the local authorities to join for sustainable urban mobility.

The mobility week is taking place annually between September 16 and 22.

The 2023 theme for the campaign was ‘Save Energy’ and aimed to raise awareness among people about the daily choices they make for their commute.

On a European level, Nicosia municipality was the only one to join the campaign and won fifth place.

The 2024 European Mobility Week campaign calls on people to reflect on the existing uses of public space in the cities.
