The decomposed body found in Ayia Napa on September 5 has been identified as 27-year-old Alexandar Gligorijevic from Serbia, who had been reported missing since July 27.
The cause of death has not yet been determined and all possibilities remain open, pending laboratory tests on the body and evidence found at the scene.
According to a post on social media, Gligorijevic arrived in Cyprus on July 18.
His mother declared him missing, after not hearing from him since July 24 when he said he had caught a virus and was feeling unwell.
His belongings were still at the hostel he was booked into.
The hostel’s reception said he may have been seen going out late on July 26.
