Intense discussions are set to take place on Tuesday regarding the Cyprus-Greece electricity interconnector, with the Council of Ministers set to meet at 11.30am ahead of a crucial meeting between President Nikos Christodoulides and Greek Prime Minister Kyriacos Mitsotakis on Thursday, government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis said.
Speaking to Alpha, Konstantinos assured that “talks have not stalled”.
“Discussions continued and are still ongoing intensively. Until yesterday, there were exchanges of some points, clarifications were requested, some were given, and others are being provided,” he said.
“The discussions are moving in the right direction, as expected for a project of this scale and importance in terms of its role in the country’s energy planning.
Letymbiotis also added that the upcoming meeting between Christodoulides and Mitsotakis “remains significant for further clarification of key issues”.
“The framework has been clarified on several points, and there is a unified understanding of the need for these clarifications from all parties. Several points are now on track,” he said.
Deputy government spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou also confirmed to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that consultations between the involved parties have continued in recent days and that progress has been made.
The issue is expected to be discussed during today’s Cabinet meeting and will be a key topic during Thursday’s meeting between the President and the Greek Prime Minister.
