The audit office assured on Thursday it was continuing its work, after its chief was fired a day earlier.

Deputy Auditor-General Kyriacos Kyriacou said audits were still continuing in the broader public sector as the constitution mandates.

Odysseas Michaelides was dismissed from his post as auditor-general for inappropriate conduct following a Supreme Constitutional Court decision.

In a unanimous ruling, a panel of eight judges found his conduct had been inappropriate and thus he was unfit for his duties.

The decision was met with tears from Michaelides’ friends and family, as well as audit office staff, while political parties widely decried the decision.

Attorney-General George Savvides made no comment as he left the courtroom. He filed the application to have Michaelides fired on April 26 after a series of conflicts dating back to 2020.
