A man who had been wanted for almost 20 years for his role in a fatal traffic accident is to appear before the Paphos District Court on Friday.
According to the police, the 60-year-old man, third country national, returned to his country of origin after the accident 18 years ago.
A judicial arrest warrant had been issued against him and he was arrested when he flew into Cyprus.
The incident unfolded shortly after 9pm on November 17, 2006, on the Ayios Neophytos to Tremithousa road. The man, then aged 42, had been driving his 18-year-old son, 38-year-old brother and his brother’s wife, aged 34, while on a visit to the island.
At a certain junction, his car reportedly veered off course and overturned in an adjacent field, killing 34-year-old passenger Lisa Jane Bissenden.
The 42-year-old was arrested the same evening under a court warrant as police investigated the accident.
He was then released to be charged and brought before a court at a later date, however, he returned to his home country and had been wanted ever since.
The 60-year-old within the day will be brought before the Paphos court for the registration and start of the trial.
