The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation’s (BoCCF’s) series of events “Moments at the Museum ’24” will launch this year’s activities with the interactive family workshop “Camila Kamilari, let’s go to Varosha”, on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at 11am.
Through an activity inspired by the island’s music and the museum’s collections, we invite children and their families to get to know, sing and illustrate the traditional kids’ songs of our island.
Together with the musical group ANTAMA, we will discover the traditional musical instruments of our country. We will get to know the violin, the lute, the tabouchia, the pitchiawli, and encounter the materials they are made of, as well as in which category each instrument belongs. We will also get to know the rhythms of our folk music through interactive musical games.
Participants will have the opportunity to hear and sing traditional songs and arrangements such as “Pyri pyri to papyrus”, “Camel camel”, “Chibi chibi to aito”, and more. They will also get to express their own imagination, inspired by making images and improvised musical instruments that reflect their impressions and experiences of this musical tour. The animator-visual artist Irini Zenonos will encourage the children, together with their parents, to illustrate performances inspired by these traditional songs.
