The Paphos municipality on Wednesday announced it had outlawed the use of scooters on public roads within the town’s municipal boundaries.
The ban applies to all roads except for cycle paths and cycle lanes.
The decision to ban scooters was taken by the town’s council on Monday, with the council saying it “aims to reduce risks and promote safety” across the town.
As such, people found riding scooters on roads in Paphos will be reported to the police, while scooters left unattended on streets or footpaths in the town will be confiscated.
The owners of confiscated scooters will then be charged additional fees to recover them.
The municipality said it “calls on people to comply with the decision … and only use the spaces expressly permitted by law.
“In this way, they will contribute to the enhancement of road safety in our town.”
