The relics of Ayios Avakoum have been taken to the church of Ayios Nikolaos in Fterikoudi, on the saint’s nameday, at the instructions of Tamasos bishop Isaias.
The relics had been in Avakoum monastery, which has remained closed due to the recent scandal and trial of monks facing charges ranging from money laundering to scamming and ‘unethical acts’ of sex.
A bishopric press release said the relics were taken to their former place of worship and will remain in the village church until the monastery reopens.
After the reopening, a part will remain in Ayios Nikolaos.
