Polis Chrysochous municipality on Sunday welcomed the announcement of more than €35 million worth of projects in the region in the fields of health, education, agriculture, tourism and social welfare.

The announcement was made on Saturday by President Nikos Christodoulides on a tour of the area as part of island-wide visits.

The enlarged municipality said this “proves that with proper planning, projects are maturing for the mMunicipality as a whole, which can be funded by the state, with the ultimate goal of creating an area where citizens can live, work and create with dignity and safety.”

The President, it said, had one day earlier “expressed the will of his government to support the area of Polis Chrysochous, so that it rightfully gets what it deserves”.

Projects announced by the president include the upgrade of the radiology department and the creation of a short-term care department at Polis hospital, the upgrade of the municipal stadium of Polis and the creation of a futsal court in Pomos. Creation of a Marine Biodiversity and Sea Turtle information centre and the protection of the coasts from erosion at six points in the area were also announced.

The president’s announced plans also sees the renovation of traditional cores of Polis, Prodromi, Droushia, Kritou Terra, Neo Chorio, Makounta, and the construction of pavements on the main road network from Polis to Pomos, and the financing of the third phase of Latchi and a tourist coastal road.

Meanwhile, the president of Kato Pyrgos Tyllirias, which Christodoulides visited earlier in the day on Saturday, Nicos Cleanthous also welcomed the announcements of development projects, including turning Pyrgos into the island’s first green community.

Cleanthous expressed his warm thanks and those of the residents of the region to Christodoulides, both for his visit and for the announcements he has made while there.

“His visit accompanied by ten ministers is unprecedented,” Cleanthous said.

If the promises made are kept, he added, they will transform and revitalise the Tylliria region.
