MPs will be called to vote on over 100 bills and proposed legislation on Thursday, in the last plenum before the House passes the state budgets just in time for the Christmas holidays.

The session begins at 12am and all eyes are on the proposed legislation for vehicle recalls, after faulty airbags exploded.

If the proposal is passed, thousands of vehicles are expected to be immobilised until the problem is solved.

The House will also vote on increasing childbirth allowances and adding more eligible groups, as well as extending children’s age limit for parental leave.

Another important issue on the agenda is the establishment and operation of foreign university branches in Cyprus.

Taxing bank profits is also on the table, with proposed legislation providing for a 5 per cent fee for 2024-2025, due to the increase of interest rates.

MPs will vote once again on an amendment of the Constitution regarding the establishment of the right for access to a healthy and sustainable environment, which had previously been referred.

Also on the agenda is an amendment that increases the grant to sports federations by 0.5 per cent.
The state budgets will be discussed over several days next week.
