An adaptation of the play Attempts on Her Life, written by Martin Crimp is currently on show in Nicosia and more performances are planned with English surtitles and for Limassol audiences. Two more shows remain in December and both are on this week at Wherehaus 612.

The play arrives in Cyprus, 27 years after its first production, still relevant in today’s society. Presented by the theatre group À Vendre, director Maria Varnakkidou brings to life this peculiar, almost experimental tale about the process of discovering the truth. It does not follow a traditional setup of a theatrical play. There is no fixed plot or central character.

In Attempts on Her Life, Anna appears as a woman with different identities who is the only link to all of the stories presented. There are 17 scenes, 17 attempts to describe, 17 attempts to understand, 17 stories that show the process of constructing an identity for public consumption.

Anna is a victim of civil war, she is a superstar, she is a tourist guide, she is a visual artist, she is an international terrorist. Fragments of a woman who can be anything or nothing. Each story illustrates the problems of contemporary society through the eyes of an absent woman who simultaneously functions as a vehicle that transports you to a world of made-up narratives.

The final two December shows are on Friday and Saturday and the last performances will include English surtitles. In the new year, the production will travel to Limassol for a January 16 show at Rialto Theatre.
