Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis on Thursday emphasised that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s remarks on a two-state solution convey a message of intransigence and disdain for UN resolutions.

During his appearance on the Proino Dromologio radio show, Letymbiotis also pointed out that Fidan’s unlawful visit to the occupied areas violates international law and coincides with the upcoming multilateral summit to discuss the possibility of resuming negotiations.

He reiterated that the Greek Cypriot side is prepared to start the conversation again using the framework that was agreed upon and from the point where they were halted. He further emphasised that the Secretary-General’s mandate is derived from the Security Council, whose resolutions also establish the framework for resolving the Cyprus problem.

In response to a question on Tatar’s insistence on simply opening the Mia Milia checkpoint and the opening of additional crossing sites, Letymbiotis explained that the Greek Cypriot side has its own red lines, which it would submit at the dialogue table.
