One more event has been added to the Nicosia International Festival’s January agenda. The concert Music Unites, held on January 31, will bring to the stage local musicians who will perform pieces that highlight the significance of respect, peaceful coexistence and cooperation among the diverse members of modern societies.

The evening’s repertoire will explore the power of music as a fundamental feature of Nicosia’s distinct cultural identity. The carefully selected repertoire showcases the musical identity of Cyprus and unites worlds and cultures through rhythm and melodies.

On stage will be a large ensemble of musicians. The newly formed philharmonic association Empnefsta in collaboration with the Symphonic Band of the Strovolos Municipality-European University Cyprus along with select musicians from Sistema Cyprus, the Nicosia Music School, the Police Philharmonic and the Band of the National Guard (SMEF), will illustrate the city’s musical potential and the extensive repertoire for wind ensembles.

The concert will also include a group of African musicians who, together with the large wind group, will present a variety of pieces showcasing the rich African musical tradition. The large ensemble of wind and percussion instruments will also feature individuals who are not part of any existing group and come from various cultural and migrant communities. This aligns with the aim of the concert to promote the rich and multidimensional musical activity of musicians from the city and district of Nicosia.

Esteemed musicians active in Nicosia (and beyond) will participate as well including Michalis Michael, Christina Efthymiou, Dimitris Yiasemidis, Kate Jarrold, Stamatis Solonos, Christos Loizidis, Klitos Pavlou, Andreas Theocharous, Dona Amyrotou and others. The evening will be held under the baton of conductor and artistic director of the project Dr Yiannis Miralis.
