A 32-year-old man from Larnaca was arrested on Tuesday in connection with two robberies targeting food delivery drivers earlier this month in Tersefanou and Larnaca.
According to the police, during the suspect’s arrest officers found a car key reported stolen from Nicosia on January 4. The key was discovered near the suspect’s residence.
A car with stolen licence plates was also seized, with authorities believing the vehicle was the one used in the robbery in Tersefanou.
The first robbery occurred in the early hours of January 7, when a 21-year-old delivery driver reported he was attacked while delivering food to an unknown individual. He was approached by a second person armed with a knife, while a third stole his moped, mobile phone and cash.
The second incident happened later that evening in Tersefanou. A 22-year-old delivery driver, parked on his motorcycle, was confronted by three masked assailants in a car. The suspects, who reportedly had their faces covered with hoods, threatened the driver, one with a firearm and the other two with knives, before stealing his cash, motorcycle keys and phone.
The 32-year-old suspect is set to appear before the Larnaca district court on Wednesday for a remand hearing.
Meanwhile, an 18-year-old arrested on January 13 in connection with the same cases is expected to have his detention extended.
Authorities are still searching for a third suspect, also 18 years old.
