The installation of traffic light cameras at the site of a fatal crash has been completed, with two new cameras installed in Limassol on Tuesday.

The cameras will monitor violations such as running a red light, crossing the white stop line and speeding.

The cameras have been placed at the intersection of Nikos Kranidiotis avenue and Ayia Anastasia street in Polemidia, the site of a crash that claimed four lives at New Year more than a year ago.

The victims were a family – two grandchildren and their grandparents – who had been out celebrating New Year’s Eve.

Their vehicle was struck by a pickup truck driven by a 44-year-old man with his 38-year-old wife as a passenger.

The crash occurred as the victims’ vehicle, driven by a 27-year-old woman, attempted to turn right. She was driving her brother and grandparents home.

Police said the victims died instantly from the impact, and the fire service was called in to remove them from the wreckage.

The 44-year-old driver tested negative for both alcohol and drugs.

However, police noted that none of the four victims had been wearing seatbelts.
