Arriving to enrich Paphos’ music scene is a charity concert on March 28. Titled A Year of Czech Music, the concert is dedicated to classical Czech music and all net proceeds raised will be donated to the Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (Pasykaf). On the stage of Markideio Theatre will be violinist Andreas P Nicolaou and pianist Galina Dimova who will enchant audiences with Czech compositions.

Organised by Technopolis 20 in collaboration with the Czech embassy, the concert’s programme is a captivating journey through Czech classical music, featuring works by some of the country’s most renowned composers.

The evening will begin with Romance by Leoš Janáček, a piece of lyrical beauty and emotional depth, followed by the expressive Grave by Jan Jiří Benda, a work rich in baroque elegance. Bohuslav Martinů’s Sonatina will bring a vibrant contrast, with its rhythmic energy and folk-inspired melodies. The iconic Bedřich Smetana will be represented by Z Domoviny (From My Homeland), two heartfelt duos that embody Czech musical identity.

Josef Suk’s evocative pieces, Raduz and Mahulena and Písen Lásky (A Love Song), will further enrich the programme with their romantic and dramatic character. After the break, the music of Antonín Dvořák will take centre stage with the deeply expressive Romance in F minor and the delightful Sonatina in G major, a work full of warmth and youthful spirit. The evening will then conclude with Zdeněk Fibich’s Poem, a touching and widely beloved piece, bringing this tribute to Czech music to a poignant and memorable close.

“Join us for an evening of magnificent music and heartfelt giving,” say organisers, “celebrating Czech musical heritage while supporting a noble cause.”
