The Sunday Mail’s March 9 review of the movie Nightcrawler your reviewer writes: “A journalist with no morals, you say? Is there any other kind?”

Yes, there is.

I found these comments sickening. I have been a journalist for 39 years. During this time friends and colleagues have been killed and wounded and left mentally scarred just because they were practising their profession responsibly, ethically and morally.

They believed the public deserves the truth and they paid the price for trying to get it.

Journalists with morals — the vast majority of those in the profession — are working every day in this world helping to strengthen our democracies. They are holding the powerful to account and shedding light on the dark corners of society that others would prefer not to see exposed for their own self-interests.

If your newspaper professes to practise responsible journalism, I cannot fathom why you allowed such a lie to be published.
