The return of the remains of murdered soldier Thanasis Nikolaos, which have been kept at the Limassol public health office since 2020, is being requested by his family, who will appear before the investigator on Thursday at the Limassol district court.

Thanasis’ mother, Andriana Nicolaou, told the Cyprus News Agency on Wednesday that an application was filed with the court last Thursday for an order to return the skeletal remains and hyoid bone, due to the completion of examinations for the cause of death.

The hearing will begin on Thursday at 9.30am, in the presence of a Law Office representative.

Andriana Nicolaou said she had been informed that the lawyers of state forensic pathologist Panicos Stavrianos would object and request bone reduction for re-examination purposes.

“I will not allow anyone to desecrate and sacrilege my son’s bones,” Andriana Nicolaou said.

Asked what would happen to the remains if they were returned to her, Andriana Nicolaou said she would discuss the issue with the bishop and the possibility of them being kept in a reliquary.

Referring to the case itself, Andriana Nicolaou said the aim was to press criminal charges.

“We can’t say if they will be private or not, but the lawyers we know should be appointed because we don’t trust those at the Law Office,” she added.
