The police on Friday announced that they had made a fifth arrest in connection with an alleged attack on five members of a volleyball team from Paphos outside a nightclub.
The man, aged 23 years old, was arrested on Thursday, with the police investigating various alleged offences including grievous bodily harm.
Previously, two men aged 21 years old and two aged 24 years old had been arrested in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred after members of the Pafiakos men’s volleyball team had gone to a nightclub to celebrate winning the Cyprus Cup.
The volleyball club described the attack as “brazen, organised, and completely unacceptable”.
Five players were injured and taken to the Paphos general hospital, where it was determined that three of them suffered broken noses.
Public broadcaster CyBC reported at the time that the perpetrators had asked to take selfies with the trophy, which the players had brought with them to the nightclub, and that the players had initially agreed.
However, the situation reportedly took a turn for the worse when the men refused to return the trophy to the players.
