Total sales of petroleum products in Cyprus reached 107,291 tonnes in March 2025, marking a slight annual decrease of 0.8 per cent compared to March 2024, according to official data published on Monday.
The data, which was included in a report by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat), showed that sales declined in several key categories.
Kerosene sales plummeted by 31.4 per cent, while asphalt sales dropped by 28.9 per cent.
In addition, heating gasoil fell by 22.5 per cent, liquefied petroleum gases decreased by 5.1 per cent, and road diesel sales slipped by 4.4 per cent.
Conversely, certain categories saw an improvement. Provisions of marine gasoil rose by 14.6 per cent, aviation kerosene sales increased by 4.7 per cent, and sales of light and heavy fuel oil rose by 14.0 per cent and 28.7 per cent respectively.
Moreover, motor gasoline sales also recorded a modest growth of 0.8 per cent.
What is more, sales from filling stations specifically declined by 1.5 per cent year-on-year in March 2025, amounting to 55,584 tonnes.
Meanwhile, when comparing March 2025 to February 2025, total petroleum sales recorded a monthly decrease of 4.0 per cent.
Significant monthly drops were observed in kerosene sales, which fell by 76.4 per cent, and heating gasoil sales, which declined by 53.4 per cent.
However, there was notable monthly growth in the provisions of aviation kerosene by 34.4 per cent, motor gasoline sales by 11.5 per cent, and road diesel sales by 7.9 per cent.
At the end of March 2025, total stocks of petroleum products decreased by 2.1 per cent compared to the end of the previous month.
For the broader period from January to March 2025, total petroleum product sales recorded a decrease of 2.3 per cent compared to the same period in 2024.
It should be noted that the data on imports, sales and stocks of petroleum products are collected a monthly basis.
The figures include sales from filling stations, sales to government departments, the British bases, the United Nations, ships, and other customers, as well as stocks held at the end of each month.
Only sales by petroleum companies are covered, while imports made directly by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) and the manufacturing industry are also included.
