Two undeclared luxury watches and one bag were found in the luggage of two passengers arriving from Basel, Switzerland by the customs department during inspections at Larnaca airport on April 27 and 29.
In both cases, authorities seized the watches, but later handed them over to the respective owners after an out-of-court-settlement was agreed upon.
The first watch was estimated at €22,000 and handed back after the payment of €1,830 and additional duties and taxes totalling €4,180, as well as a surcharge on the debt of €418.
In the second case, the value of the confiscated luxury watch and bag amounted to €25,984. The case was settled over the payment of €1,700 and relevant duties and taxes totalling to €5,046, as well as a debt surcharge of €504.
On Friday, two men had been ordered to pay fines exceeding €32,000 following separate customs violations at Larnaca airport in which officials found two undeclared luxury watches worth a combined €104,246.
