Cyprus will participate in this year’s online International Low-Vision Song Contest on May 16, with the entry Pyxida, performed by Nicoletta Livadioti and Nikos Demetriou.
The public is being encouraged to cast their votes to support the Cypriot duo.
Pyxida is one of 25 entries in the biannual competition, which is organised by Views International – an organisation that promotes mobility and independence among visually impaired youth – and the German Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted (DBSV), which strives for an inclusive and discrimination-free society.
The Cyprus Organisation for the Blind is coordinating the island’s participation in the event.
Cyprus’ song was written by Panayiotis Petsas and the music by Christos Iacovou.
According to contest rules, at least one person involved in the song’s creation – whether as a writer, composer, or performer – must have a visual impairment.
This year’s competition features entries from 25 countries worldwide. For the first time, artists also have the option to perform live in Berlin.
People can vote on StrawPoll in the online competition streaming live on YouTube for any country apart from their own. Each person can vote once for up to two songs.
The final begins at 8pm Cyprus time on May 16 and is expected to last about four hours. Cyprus’ entry will be the fifth performance of the evening.
Voting opens at 11.25pm and will remain open for approximately 15 minutes. The winner will be announced by midnight.
