A 23-year-old man was hospitalised after being run over by a reversing van, the police announced on Friday.

The man had been walking through an area near a hotel in Paralimni when the van, which was being driven by a 41-year-old man, struck him.

He was taken firstly to a private clinic in Paralimni before being transferred to the Famagusta general hospital, which is also located in Paralimni, and then being transferred again to the Nicosia general hospital.

Doctors found that he had suffered a liver contusion – an injury typically caused by blunt force trauma to the abdomen – and severe head injuries.

They described his condition as “critical”.

The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
