Areas of Paphos were affected by hail, heavy rainfall and hailstorms on Sunday as intense weather conditions hit the area at lunchtime.
Intense downpours lasted for around an hour, with some communities and parts of Paphos city experiencing hail. Both mountainous and coastal areas were impacted, with the intensity of the weather locally severe.
Roads in Yeroskipou looked a if it had snowed.
Police warned that due to the heavy hail, visibility on the Limassol–Paphos highway is extremely limited, making driving hazardous.
Drivers have been urged to exercise extra caution, reduce speeds, maintain safe distances from other vehicles, and keep headlights on.
The fire service has received an increased number of calls, particularly at the Paphos fire station, due to heavy rainfall affecting the district, according to a post on the X platform by fire service spokesperson Andreas Kettis.
Kettis said special response teams have been set up to deal with flooding incidents, while a continuous risk assessment is being carried out to ensure an appropriate response to reported cases.
So far, he noted, no calls have been received involving rescues of people, nor any incidents related to property at immediate risk.
Additional personnel have been recalled to the Paphos fire station, while crews from the Paphos district local authority (EOA) are also assisting in managing the incidents. Most reports concern the areas of Paphos, Geroskipou and Konia.
