Coronavirus: two more deaths, 167 new cases announced on Friday (Updated)

The health ministry announced two more deaths and 167 cases of Covid-19 on Friday from a total of 3,226 both PCR and rapid testing.

The two people who died were men aged 80 and 71, one in Famagusta hospital and one in Nicosia. Both had underlying conditions. This brings the total death toll to 127 of which 85 are men and 42 women with an average age of 80.

The 80-year-old who died has been brought from a care home.

There are 168 Covid patients in hospitals, 48 of whom are in critical condition. Of those, 20 are intubated, 20 in ICUs and eight in high dependency units.

Of the 3,226 tests processed, 559 were PCR and 2,667 were rapid test.

Of the 167 positives, 10 were detected through private initiative testing, four were found in hospital lab samples and 153 were detected with rapid tests. Passenger checks on 150 people were all negative.
