A house on a refugee estate in Kato Polemidia was burgled and then set ablaze on Friday afternoon, Limassol police said on Saturday. The occupant of the house is currently abroad.

The fire started at 17.30 on Friday evening in a house located in the refugee estate. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but investigations by the fire brigade and police who rushed to the scene concluded that it was an arson attack and that had been preceded by a burglary and theft.

The 50-year-old tenant of the house is absent abroad. The house was severely damaged by the fire. The amount of damage has not yet been calculated nor has it been established what the perpetrators stole.

This is the second case of burglary and arson of a house investigated by Limassol police. A few days ago, a house in Episkopi was also the target of burglary and arson, the owners of which were again absent abroad.
