Two men, a Greek Cypriot and a Turkish Cypriot, were arrested in the north for cigarette smuggling and also face charges for entering a military zone.

In a smuggling operation near Louroujina, 12,000 euros worth of cigarettes were found in the car of the Turkish Cypriot who, with the help of the Greek Cypriot, was attempting to bring them over to the Republic.

The two men were arrested for entering the military zone on January 16 at about 17.40, Turkish Cypriot media reported on Monday.

The pair took PCR tests and were later taken to court and are now in police custody for a further two days.
